Forged from a single piece of Japanese "ao-hagane" blue steel, these scissors are traditionally used for cutting fabric/thread. We use them in our kitchen for pruning plants & snipping spices.
The blacksmith trade in the Banshu region in the Hyogo prefecture began with forging Katana swords around 400 years ago when Hideyoshi Toyotomi attacked Miki castle. He commissioned many blacksmiths in the Banshu region to produce his swords, and Banshu Hamono is one of the blacksmiths still living on.
Wrapped in a custom cloth & enclosed in a paulownia wood box, they are something else. Watch the video of them being made by hand below.
